good to see all of you.
kim, this is a guy who was so out front on the birther issue, who also called that mexican judge a mexican when he was on the other side.
what does this say about donald trump's character?
>> well, it's sort of the other side of the coin, right, is that he's also saying things about hillary clinton that are at least as bad as the things that he's said about michael brown and about muslims and things like that.
he's made remarks that are just as bad about her.
so, you know, i think it's sort of -- you either hate her or you don't like him, but i think it sort of shows that they're both very much in the same ballpark in terms of some of the things they're saying.
>> let me ask you about something that donald trump said on friday.
he said this after hillary clinton's speech.
take a.

>> ma -- michael shear, we have this campaign, we have these two candidates, and then we have these large group of voters who, the polls show, they're open to change.
but they're not really sure which one of these two is the one to do it.
that's the catch, isn't it?
>> yeah.
i mean, i think that's exactly right.
i mean, there's a whole bunch of people out there who want change, who are not crazy about hillary clinton, donald trump has a big problem on his hands.
he's got to figure out a way to appeal to these voters, these soft voters, these independent voters, who right now are saying they're not crazy about either candidate.
and he's got to do it in a way that doesn't alienate his own base.
he's got to bring back some of the people who used to support him who are not with him anymore.
and he's got to do it in a way that he can stay true to himself, because he's running as a change candidate.
if he starts sounding like a member of the status quo, he's going to lose his core base.
>> that much is clear.
michael shear, thank you f.
