"nbc nightly news" conducted a poll and found the idea is favored by about a third of americans. that is better than the 20% who were sympathetic to it when the question was asked in 2016. among democratic voters, it is favored by more than half. but it does not get majority support among any demographic group. well, according to pew research center, americans have been more supportive of a single-payer system over the years. that is when the question is asked in an open-ended format. in 2009, 46% said health care would work better if it was run by the government. that rose to 49% in 2010. and then to 66% in 2013 in the weeks after president obama's health care law was passed. among liberal democrats, support for single-payer rises to 76%.
