Does Medicare Pay For Orthotics?
Medicare typically covers some orthotics, depending on the circumstance. A doctor must prescribe orthotics in order for them to be covered by Medicare. If you have Medicare Part B, orthotics must be prescribed by a licensed physician or other qualified practitioner and ordered from a Medicare-enrolled supplier in order to be covered by Medicare.
Medicare Part B covers the following:
Orthopedic shoes, boots, inserts, and foot supports for use as a brace to correct foot deformities
Orthopedic shoes and inserts for use in treating diabetic ulcers
Orthopedic shoes and inserts for use by a person with a non-traumatic lower limb amputation
Insoles, inserts, foot pads, and toe spacers for use in the prevention or correction of foot deformities
Orthopedic shoes, boots, inserts, and foot supports for use by a person with spina bifida
Orthotic shoe inserts, orthotic arch supports, and orthotic foot supports for use in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders
Orthotic shoe inserts, orthotic arch supports, and orthotic foot supports for use by a person with a spinal cord injury
Orthotic shoe inserts, orthotic arch supports and orthotic foot supports for use by a person with an acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) related condition
