Do You Have To Renew Medicare Supplement Every Year?
I am a 56 year old female and have just started Medicare Part D.
I am also trying to figure out what Medicare Supplement I need.
I am currently covered under Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and was told that in order to keep my prescription coverage with them I would need to take a Medicare Supplement policy.
I am considering taking either a Cigna or United Health care supplement.
Can I read the policy and change companies if I do not like the supplement?
Is there a penalty for changing companies?
Does the policy need to be renewed every year or can it be in effect for the rest of my life?
It is a good idea to read the policy carefully and make sure that it provides the coverage you want. You can change insurance companies at any time. The policy will not expire on its own. If you are not satisfied with your coverage, you can switch to a different company. The health insurance companies are required to offer you an opportunity to change companies, but there is no penalty for changing your mind.
DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT?
I would like to know if i have to pay for medicare supplement even if i am on medicare, i am married to a veteran.
I am not sure what you mean by “pay for medicare supplement“. If you are getting Medicare and you have Part D prescription drug coverage, you are automatically enrolled in a Medicare Supplement policy. You are not charged for this policy. You pay only for the Part D premium and any additional costs for services not covered by Medicare. If you are not on Part D, you are not enrolled in a Medicare Supplement policy.
DOES MEDICARE PART D COVER SUPPLEMENTAL MEDICARE INSURANCE?
I'm 64 years old and have medical and supplemental policies through Blue Shield.
I've had a heart attack and a stroke.
I'm now trying to figure out what I'm going to do with regard to the supplemental insurance.
Is it something I need to keep for the rest of my life?
My supplemental insurance is paid for my through my employer and I'm not sure why I'm paying for it.
If I stop paying for it will I lose my coverage?
It's a small monthly amount ($12.
I'm just not sure if my employer pays for it and that's why I pay for it or if I'm really paying for it and don't need to.
Please help me understand.
I'm really confused.
I understand that you are confused. In general, Medicare Supplement insurance is a good idea, even if you are covered under the Blue Cross Blue Shield medical plan. The reason for this is that Medicare only covers 80% of your medical expenses. The other 20% may not seem like much, but it quickly adds up. The Medicare Supplement insurance will pick up that 20% gap. The only exception to this rule is if you have a very high annual income. In that case, you will not get any additional savings from Medicare Supplement.
