Are Wheelchairs Covered By Medicare?
not all wheelchairs are covered by medicare. the following list is not exhaustive, but it should give you a general idea of what is covered and what is not:
wheelchairs that are considered "custom-made" are not covered.
the medicare and medicaid programs do not cover motorized wheelchairs or any that are considered "power-assisted."
supports and braces (leg braces, wrist and hand braces, etc.) are not covered.
user-powered wheelchairs (those that are pushed by the person who is sitting in the chair) are not covered.
the medicare program does not cover wheelchairs that are used for recreational purposes, athletic events or other competitive sports.
the medicare program does not cover wheelchairs that are used for children under the age of 18.
the medicare program does not cover power chairs that cost more than $850 (this is the maximum amount that medicare will pay).
the medicare program does not cover powerchairs that were purchased outside of the united states.
the medicare program does not cover custom-made wheelchairs.
the medicare program does not cover "manual wheelchairs" or "tricycle wheelchairs."
the medicare program does not cover wheelchairs that are purchased from a walker company.
the medicare program does not cover wheelchairs that are purchased from places such as "wholesale club" stores, drug stores, discount stores, department stores, medical supply houses, etc.
the medicare program does not cover wheelchairs that are purchased from places that sell "over-the-counter" equipment.
in other words, i'd have to find a medicare-approved supplier to purchase the wheelchair or i'd have to buy it myself. but i still have to find a company that will sell one to me.
i took a walk with a friend to the nearby mall, which is usually very crowded. it was a bit difficult finding a place to park, and it was even more difficult getting through the crowds when we finally found a place to park. it was harder to walk than i expected. i didn't feel very strong the whole time, but i didn't feel like my legs were going to give out once i started walking. at first, the crowd was a little intimidating, but after a while, i got used to them and i wasn't so scared anymore. it wasn't too bad. i had a good time. it was nice to have some company for a change. this is the first time i've been out in a really long time.
i tried to get on the computer to look for a wheelchair, but i didn't get very far. it's hard to type with my mouth, and it's hard to find the right words to say and it's hard to remember what i want to say. it takes me a long time to type anything, much less a whole paragraph. i don't know if i'll be able to find a wheelchair, but i have to keep looking.
my laundry is finished and my room is cleaned up. no more dirty laundry, no more dirty clothes on the floor, and i don't have any dirty dishes to do. i have all my dishes clean and in the cupboards, and i've put everything away. now it's time for a bath.
when i'm done with the bath, maybe i'll try to type some more. i'll try to write about being in the hospital and the accident and all of the stuff i've been going through. that might be too much to write, though. i don't know. maybe i'll write about the hospital and the accident and the wheelchairs, and then maybe i'll write about how i went to the mall and i had a good time. that should be doable.
if i can't find a wheelchair, i might be able to find a scooter. i've heard of things like the "breeze" and the "kango." maybe i'll be able to get one of those. if that's the case, maybe i'll be able to get to the mall again. that could be fun. i'd like that.
i could drive the scooter to the mall. i'm not too bad at it. i can drive it on sidewalks, so i could drive it to the mall and just drive it right inside. i've done that before. that'd be fun. i like driving the scooter. it's easy. i just wish i could drive it to the mall for a wheelchair.
i might be able to find a wheelchair on the internet. i don't know if that's realistic, but i think it might be a good idea. maybe i'll try to look for a wheelchair on the internet. that could be fun. i'd like to find a wheelchair on the internet. i'd like to find a wheelchair that doesn't cost more than $850, though. i don't have a lot of money to spend on a wheelchair. i'd like to get a cheap wheelchair.
i'll probably go back to the mall again. i've been to the mall a lot, but i've never had any problems going there. i always have a good time when i'm at the mall. i like going there. if i can't find a wheelchair at the mall, maybe i'll find a wheelchair on the internet. if i can't find a wheelchair on the internet, maybe i'll find one at the mall.
i'm going to take a bath.
i feel bad for being so ugly and dirty.
i feel bad because i don't really look the way i want to look.
i don't really look like a person, do i?
i look more like some kind of animal.
i look more like some sort of animal.
